We Will Rise
A downloadable game
There's a storm brewing.
Something has shaken the foundations of the East Mudos economy. A people, once worked to the bone, now turning on their tyrannical overlords. A product, which once kept those people addicted and compliant, now losing its grip on their minds and bodies. One mudokon who was in the right place, at the right time, spurred onwards by the flames at his back, both literal and figurative. In his wake, those flames have torn through the Magog Cartel, rallying workers against the corporate glukkon leaders and burning gaping holes into some of their most prominent companies.
The camera draws back. A rebellion is a movement. A movement is nothing without the masses. This isn't about him. This is about you.
You are self-proclaimed bearers of the Spirit of 1029 flag, named for the catastrophic destruction of the RuptureFarms processing plant that started it all. You burst free from a life of gruelling, dangerous work, dust in your lungs and scars on your skin, only to turn right back around and face your masters. Whoever you were, whatever skill you were forced to learn, the rebellion can put it to use undermining a class that never saw it coming.
Someone saved you.
It's time to pay it forward.
We Will Rise is a PbtA-based roleplaying game for multiple players, based on the Oddworld series of video games and set around the time of Oddworld: SoulStorm. It's primarily a game about fucking shit up and causing chaos, on the backdrop of rescuing people from oppressive overlords in a dieselpunk dystopia in the early stages of massive social upheaval.
Eight playbooks - The Greaser, The Gunslinger, The Volatile, The Ranger, The Liaison, The Medic, The Seer and The Doomed - offer a range of different backgrounds and skill sets, as well as extended rules for playing sligs who have decided that the rebels cut a better deal than anything glukkons have to offer. The game is intended to be playable whether you know Oddworld or not, although I would recommend at least that the Keeper be familiar with the series.
Oddworld handles heavy topics. Environmental destruction, slavery, addiction, extreme cruelty and violence are mainstays of the series, among many other things. It's up to you how much of this happens on-screen in your game of WWR, but many of these things are inherently tied into character backstories and this may not be the game for you if you're after something light-hearted.
WWR is currently a work in progress. I would call it just about playable as it is at the moment, with some homebrew patching for some playbooks which are still missing base gear and a couple of other things. Character sheets are my number one priority. If you have suggestions for additions or changes, drop a comment.
